The third time is officially a charm for a beloved local favorite. After being named a national finalist in both 2022 and 2023, Bozeman’s own Wild Crumb just won the 2026 James Beard Foundation Award for Outstanding Bakery.

The winners were announced Monday night at the annual gala in Chicago, cementing what locals have known for years: the best baked goods in the nation are being made right here in Montana.

Anyone who has ever stood in the long line understands that the award couldn't go to a more deserving bakery. From their incredible artisan sourdough bread to an elite rotation of pastries, co-founders Caroline and Janis, along with the entire Wild Crumb team, have built an absolute powerhouse.

Having been to Wild Crumb a number of times myself, I can confidently say it’s one of the best bakeries I’ve ever stepped foot in. (I still think about a phenomenal slice of key lime pie I bought there a few years ago. Truly unforgettable.)

It is incredible to see such a hardworking, community-focused business get much-deserved national attention. I have a funny feeling that the line out front might be a little longer the next time I stop by for a morning treat, but that's okay. Some things are absolutely worth the wait, and Wild Crumb is at the top of that list.

We're lucky to have such an incredible bakery right here in Bozeman. If you get a chance, stop by and congratulate the crew.
