Things That Prove Bozeman Was Once An Affordable Place
Bozeman used to be the kind of town where you didn’t think twice about the price of a beer, a concert ticket, or even rent. Somewhere along the way, that changed, and if you want proof, talk to a longtime resident.
Ask a simple question like “What used to be cheap in Bozeman but isn’t anymore?” and the responses pour in. Longtime locals, recent arrivals, and everyone in between quickly start trading stories, prices, and a little disbelief. What starts as nostalgia usually turns into a reality check.
One of the most common throwbacks mentioned was quarter beers at the R Bar or grabbing a PBR at the Scoop. Brandi’s breakfast at the Cat’s Paw was also mentioned.

Of course, it wasn’t just bars and breakfasts. One person said hot springs, and another said having a child.
Dining out was another hot topic. Facebook users repeatedly mentioned restaurants, remembering when eating out felt casual instead of like a special occasion. The same went for everyday entertainment like going to the movies, where ticket and snack prices now spark sticker shock.
Winter recreation didn’t escape the comments either. Locals lamented the rising cost of lift tickets, while music fans pointed to concert tickets that now cost far more than ever. Local bowling fanatics mentioned $1 games and $1 High Life at the Bozeman Bowl, which is a screaming deal.
Remember when tickets to a Bobcat game were easy to grab and didn't cost you an arm and a leg?
One resident noted how fishing guides and equipment have become significantly more expensive, turning what was once an accessible pastime into a serious investment. Even speeding tickets came up, because apparently, everything costs more now.
