Get To Know The Spruce Moose Headliner Michael Franti With These Fun Facts

Michael Franti and Spearhead are headlining this year's Spruce Moose Festival on the mountain side at Big Sky Resort on September 1st.  I thought it would be a good idea to get to know the man before the show.  Assuming that his Wikipedia page is true, here are a few things about Michael Franti.

Where is he from?

Mr. Franti hails from Oakland California.  Impressive that coming out of what has been a city that has a history for violence, Michael has made such a positive movement with his music.

What was his first band?

The Beatnigs was Michael's first go at putting a musical group together was out of San Francisco and did well in the area.

He doesn't like to wear shoes

This is something that is off the beaten path so I have a bit of skepticism about.  According to Wikipedia at some point Michael made the decision, involving his vegan diet, that he was going to walk barefoot for 3 days. That turned into never wearing them. With the exception of flip-flops where absolutely necessary.

He played basketball in college

Michael Franti standing tall at 6'6" attended the University of San Francisco on a full basketball scholarship.
