This former Bobcat was not only a key player at Montana State, but made history in the NFL.

Over the weekend, former Bobcat kicker Jan Stenerud was inducted into the Big Sky Conference Hall of Fame. Stenerud is originally from Norway, and came to Montana State on a ski jumping scholarship. He was discovered by Montana State football players, and became the team's kicker.

Jan Stenerud holds records for the longest field goal in a game, at 59 yards, and was named an All-American in 1966. He was drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs and became one of the most efficient field goal kickers in the AFL and NFL during his tenure.

Jan ended up playing for the Kansas City Chiefs, Minnesota Vikings, and Green Bay Packers during his NFL career, and even won a Super Bowl with the Kansas City Chiefs. Jan has had his number retired by the Bobcats and the Chiefs and is a part of the Kansas City Chiefs and Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame.

Stenerud was also the first kicker to be enshrined in the NFL Hall of Fame. Jan changed the game when it came to kicking field goals in the NFL and deserves all the recognition for his achievements.

I'm surprised it took the Big Sky Conference this long to recognize his triumphs and include him in the Big Sky Hall of Fame. Jan Stenerud is someone that every Bobcat fan should appreciate, and if you are a kicker, you might want to learn more about him.

This man came to Montana State on a skiing scholarship and ended up becoming one of the most prolific kickers in football history. You deserve this award Jan!
