Census Workers Set To Begin Knocking on Doors in Gallatin County

Residents in Gallatin County can expect United States Census workers to begin knocking on doors to collect responses from households that have not yet responded on Tuesday, August 11.

If you have not yet responded to the census, you can go online at www.2020census.gov, or you can respond by phone at 1-800-844-2020.

The Gallatin County Sheriff's Office is advising residents to please cooperate if a census taker comes to your door.

Census numbers form the basis for the annual distribution of more than $675 billion in federal funds to states and local communities, so it’s important to have everyone counted.

Here's how to verify the identity of a census taker.

• Check to make sure that they have a valid ID badge
• Make sure that their photograph is on the badge
• Check for a U.S. Department of Commerce watermark
• Check the expiration date on the ID badge

If you still have questions about their identity, you can call 844-330-2020 to speak with a Census Bureau representative.

The Census Bureau will never ask for:

• Your Social Security number
• Your bank account or credit card numbers
• Anything on behalf of a political party
• Money or donations
