Some of them are very simple such as call you for an immediate payment, ask for your debit or credit card, threaten to bring in local police or ask you to pay back your taxes with a prepaid debit card.

One other thing that you should automatically know is if the person calling is a prerecorded phone call or message then that is definitely not from the IRS. They will contact your personally or whoever you go through when you get your taxes done.

Please be careful when answering phone calls during the next few months because phone scams like this will be increasing every day with more folks getting their tax refunds and people trying to take advantage.

If you receive one of these phone calls you can always contact the Bozeman Police to ask what you should do and how to avoid them in the future.
