27 New ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ Photos, Plus Vin Diesel Records “I Am Groot” in Mandarin
We’ve already seen 17 minutes of Marvel’s upcoming space opera, ‘Guardians of the Galaxy,’ including an extended scene and one badass sizzle reel. However, this new sci-fi world still has more nooks and crannies to explore, and 27 new photos from the film have debuted to help us traverse this unknown terrain.
Among the new looks at ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ comes our first official glimpse of ‘The Walker Dead‘ star Michael Rooker in full Yondu attire. And boy, he sure has got the blues. From that ‘Guardians of the Galaxy: An IMAX 3D First Look,’ we learned that Yondu is the leader of a group of intergalactic bandits of sorts, called The Ravagers, and Chris Pratt‘s Star-Lord is a member. However, USA Today revealed more to his story — when Star-Lord (aka Peter Quill) was a kid, he endured a tragedy and was taken off of Earth by Yondu, who would come to serve as a father figure to the young hero. During the events of ‘GOTG,’ the two scheme to steal that precious and dangerous orb we’ve seen so many times, but Star-Lord runs off with it, forcing Yondu to pursue.
Talk about family drama! But there’s plenty of that to go around, too. Gamora (Zoe Saldana) and Nebula (Karen Gillan) also have some unsettled sibling beef to duke out, and Drax (Dave Bautista) is looking to settle the score with Thanos for wiping out his family. Thankfully, we’ve got the wise-cracking, gunslinging Rocket and hulking tree-of-few-words Groot to maintain the humor.
Check out all 27 pics from ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ below, including new looks at Glenn Close and John C. Reilly as Nova Corps members, Lee Pace as Ronan the Accuser, and plenty of rainbow-colored aliens to go around.
As an added bonus, Vin Diesel, who voices Groot, went back to the studio recently to record his voiceover work for the Mandarin cut of the film. It’s a priceless moment to watch him stand on stilts and grumble a translation of “I am Groot” into the mic.
‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ hits theaters August 1.
