Zendaya Supports Bella Thorne Amid Nude Photo Controversy
Zendaya and other stars are voicing their support for Bella Thorne following her nude photo scandal and Whoopi Goldberg's victim-shaming comments.
In case you need a little context, the Famous in Love actress leaked her own topless photos online after a hacker threatened to use them against her. Though most people applauded her decision to reclaim her power from her alleged blackmailer, The View host seemingly blamed Thorne for taking nudes in the first place.
"If you're famous, I don't care how old you are. You don't take nude pictures of yourself," Goldberg said on the show Monday, June 17th. "Once you take that picture, it goes into the cloud and it's available to any hacker who wants it, and if you don't know that in 2019, that is an issue."
In response, Thorne tearfully called out Goldberg's unfair criticism on her Instagram Stories. "Shame on you, Whoopi. Shame on you and shame on you for putting that public opinion just out there like that for every young girl to think that they're disgusting for even taking a photo like that," she said in the emotional video.
Her outrage drew support Lily-Rose Depp, Lucy Hale, Dove Cameron, and her ex-boyfriend Tyler Posey, who also had his photos leaked in 2017. The 21-year-old shared most of the screengrabs of the texts and Instagram DMs she received, which also included a sweet message from her former Shake It Up co-star.
Thorne revealed Zendaya called her to make sure she was alright, as well as sent her this message: “Just a reminder that you are strong and courageous and beautiful inside and out. You f---ing broke my heart with that damn IG post but anyway, just being a f---ing right now just letting you know you’re a light and I’m super proud. Love you."
"You're absolutely right and anyone who's saying otherwise is just wrong, living in another century, and completely unconcerned by what repercussions words like those might have as they relate to young people and how they view their sexualities and bodies," Depp wrote.
“Good for you baby girl. I’m so proud of you for speaking up,” the Pretty Little Liars star wrote. “This breaks my heart. But you’re making a difference for other girls and women!”
