Unconscious Mountain Biker Rescued

The Gallatin County Sheriff's Search and Rescue team was busy on Saturday responding to two separate mountain biking incidents. One occurring in Big Sky, the other in the Custer-Gallatin National Forest.

On Saturday around 3:15 p.m., Gallatin County 911 received a call about an  unconscious mountain biker on the Mystic Lake Trail. Gallatin County Search & Rescue, along with AMR & the Fort Ellis Fire Department, responded to the scene.

The injured mountain biker had been riding down the trail with a friend when he lost control of his bike and crashed. Search & Rescue were able to safely transport him down the trail. The injured rider was wearing a helmet, but he was unaware of his surrounding and struggled to answer questions once he regained consciousnesses.

He eventually regained his bearings and was able to respond to questions. He was transported by family members to the hospital with only minor injuries.

A second call came in on Saturday to Gallatin County 911 at 4:44 p.m. This call was to report a man who was injured while mountain biking on the Mountain to the Meadow trail in Big Sky.

The rider was 36-years-old and had injured his shoulder and neck while riding several miles back on technical trails. The Gallatin County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue out of Big Sky and the Big Sky Fire Department responded to the scene. They located the man and were able to transport him to a waiting ambulance where he was taken to the hospital.
