You might want to check the security of your storage unit facility to make sure it's protecting your valuables.

Today, August 2nd, Madison County Sheriff's Office reported a series of break-ins at several storage unit facilities. The crimes are currently under investigation, but the information about the culprits is limited. We have to ask: could this spread to Gallatin County?

Gallatin County has dozens of storage unit facilities both on busy major roads and on side streets in residential areas. The security of these storage units differs from place to place. That doesn't mean you can't protect your belongings.

The Madison County Sheriff's Office says one of the best ways to protect your valuables is to talk to the storage unit owners to see if they can add motion sensor cameras. Cameras not only protect your unit, but protect every unit on the grounds.

You can also buy higher quality and more sophisticated locks for your unit. That way, thieves trying to break in will have a less likely chance of getting into your unit. Though the best way to avoid major loss is by avoiding storing valuables anywhere that isn't super secure, you can also purchase your own simple security system for your unit.

Storage units are easy targets for thieves because usually there isn't any security, and units are not difficult to enter. Plus, people don't know their storage facilities were broken into until the next day or later.

So if you own or rent a storage unit you might want to check in on it and make sure it's secure, just to avoid any extra worry.
