Update 6/23:

The Montana Department of Transportation reports that the Beartooth Pass (US 212) is open as of 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 23. US 212 is "completely open" on both the Montana and Wyoming sides.

A snowstorm that hit the area on Thursday has temporarily shut down the Beartooth Pass (US-212) near Yellowstone National Park.

Officials shut the pass down at the Montana-Wyoming state line late Thursday.

The highway is closed at mile marker 55, which is 13 miles south of Red Lodge.

The Montana Department of Transportation put up the following message to travelers on its official website:

Beartooth Pass is closed at state line due to high winds, snow, blowing/drifting showers are to last until Friday night/Saturday morning. Travelers leaving Red Lodge will need to turn around at the state line and return to Red Lodge. Wyoming side will be closed until further notice. Expect rapidly changing conditions thru to Saturday. Travel safely.
