Many folks in the Bozeman area are concerned about the number of beds available at Bozeman Deaconess Hospital because of the coronavirus. According to the latest state status report on Hospital Occupancy & Capacity in Montana, Bozeman Deaconess has fewer than 70% of their beds currently occupied.

The report shows that as of 10/20/2020, Bozeman Deaconess has:

  • 57 beds in use by non-COVID patients.
  • 13 beds in use by COVID patients.
  • 59 beds available.

The state reports that Bozeman Deaconess has nine beds in use in the ICU for patients without COVID-19.

  • 3 patients are in the ICU with the coronavirus.
  • 8 beds are available.
  • 1 ventilator is in use
  • 18 beds are available.

Earlier this week, the Gallatin City-County Health Department reported 15 hospitalizations due to COVID-19. Thankfully, that number has dropped to 11 on Wednesday. In Montana, 345 people are currently hospitalized due to the coronavirus. The state has seen 1,068 people hospitalized with COVID-19 since the pandemic began eight months ago.

Certainly, these current numbers could change rapidly. But this is what the latest status report shows.

Gallatin County has seen a 7% positive test rate overall for the coronavirus, while reporting six deaths with COVID-19:

  • 4 people in their 90s
  • 1 in their 60s
  • 1 person in their 50s.

The death rate is 0.24% in Gallatin County from COVID-19.

For Montana, the state has seen 275 deaths with COVID-19. The state death rate is 1.1%. Nationwide, the coronavirus death rate is less than 3%, and so is the worldwide death rate.
