Preacher is about to close the book on Season 2, but another Seth Rogen-Evan Goldberg-Garth Ennis collaboration might be heating up. Initially eyed for Cinemax, a take on superhero satire The Boys is nearing a straight-to-series order at Amazon.

Amazon itself has undergone a bit of turnover lately, shuttering renewed series like Z: The Beginning of Everything and The Last Tycoon in search of higher-profile hits. Variety reports that The Boys has received a script order in that process, with an eye on a possible straight-to-series pickup.

The 72-issue The Boys follows a CIA black ops group who monitor and sometimes dispatch superheroes, known in this world as violent and corrupt celebrities who place civilians in danger on a frequent basis. Rogen, Goldberg and Neal Moritz will adapt Ennis and Darick Robertson’s comic, as written by Supernatural creator Eric Kripke, and directed by Rogen and Goldberg.

It isn’t entirely clear why The Boys development moved from Cinemax to Amazon, but might it provide the high-octane hit Amazon is looking for? Could The Tick make it one superhero show too many?
