Reese Witherspoon, Jennifer Aniston to Join Forces in Series About Morning TV
Friends' famously combative Green sisters are reuniting on the small screen — Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon are slated to star in a brand new TV series.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the actors will lead an original show based on New York City morning TV shows and, more generally, the city's media scene. The team behind the production is said to be shopping it to places like HBO and Netflix, where it's expected to draw pretty significant interest.
Witherspoon appeared on Friends during its sixth season in 1999, when she played the younger, jealous sister of Aniston's Rachel Green, Jill.
Aniston eventually earned five Emmy nominations for her Friends role, and won one trophy. Witherspoon, who won an Oscar for her role in Walk The Line, is looking to bring home her first Emmy for her role in HBO's popular Big Little Lies.
And while the project will be a Friends reunion of sorts, Aniston continually insists that no formal reunion will happen, adding that the invention of cellphones has made the coffee shop-talk gimmick obsolete. "We were in a room together or in a coffee shop together and we were talking, having conversations,” she told Lorraine Kelly. “We’ve lost that.”
