Professor Resigns After Skipping Classes and Giving Everyone an A
A professor and department chair at George Washington University has resigned from her position after failing to show up to teach two of her classes, resulting in a litany of complaints from students — even though she gave them all As.
Venetia Orcutt, the former chair of GW’s physician assistant department, was supposed to teach a class called Evidence Based Medicine to pre-med students during the 2009-10 school year, but failed to do so, opting instead to just give all the students enrolled an A and call it a day.
When students wrote to the provost and complained, Orcutt stepped down. The university said in a statement that it’s investigating the incident, but in the meantime has refunded students the cost of the class and given them credit for attendance.
