Orange Is the New Black Season 5 undoubtedly belonged to Danielle Brooks’ Taystee, but the finale cliffhanger(s) left unclear where the vast majority of characters might end up. Taystee will at least return, but Brooks isn’t sure she’ll stick with the series past a certain point.

You’re warned of full spoilers for Orange Is the New Black Season 5 from here on out, but the three-day riot sparked from Poussey’s death left off on yet another cliffhanger, as those not yet rounded up for relocation stood firm against riot police breaking through to Freida’s pool hideaway. Brooks’ Tasha “Taystee” Jefferson stood among them, but surely wouldn’t survive all that just to be granted an unceremonious exit in early Season 6, right? Right?

As Brooks tells Entertainment Weekly, Taystee is likely to stick with Orange Is the New Black for the foreseeable future, but should Netflix go past its seven-season order, she might not come with:

Who knows? We have until seven for sure. To be honest, I don’t know if I want to play an inmate past that. I don’t know if I want to do that because I have a lot in me and a lot that I want to share with the world and different characters I want to be able to bring to life. After seven, I think it might be time for me to spread my wings, but I don’t want to speak too fast on that.

To her credit, Brooks has added a few other premium TV credits between seasons, from Master of None to HBO’s Girls, but is Orange prepared to lose Taystee down the line? Should the series itself go beyond Season 7?
