Production Officially Wraps on Josh Boone’s ‘The New Mutants’
It’s been a relatively quiet last couple of months for Josh Boone’s X-Men: The New Mutants. While there are certainly bigger and louder comic book movies to chase down — hello, Deadpool 2 and Avengers: Infinity War — Boone’s film managed to avoid headlines and will have the rare chance to genuinely surprise audiences when it starts rolling out the marketing material. And while there’s still a few hurdles left to overcome — the movie is still months away from hitting theaters, after all — at least Boone and his cast can celebrate the end of production on his standalone X-Men movie.
Over the past few days, Boone has been sharing behind-the-scenes photos from The New Mutants on his Instagram account (via Heroic Hollywood), with a particular emphasis on the end of principal photography. Boone is, of course, careful not to show anything of any real value, but it is fun to peek behind the curtain of an otherwise stealthy production:

As a reminder, The New Mutants is shaping up to be quite the celebration of Hollywood’s younger talent, with Maisie Williams, Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Heaton, and others all set to play some of the more beloved members of the extended X-Men family. It’s also worth remembering that X-Men: The New Mutants will be quite different than the other movies we’ve seen thus far, with Boone noting that his film will have “no costumes” and “no super-villains.” This is all part of a bolder strategy for Boone and company, with The New Mutants playing more like a horror film than a traditional superhero film. Whatever Boone’s vision for the film entails, keep it circled on your list of must-see 2018 releases. This could be the continuation of a new wave of truly genre-bending superhero movies.
X-Men: The New Mutants will hit theaters on April 13, 2018.
