Mel C and Victoria Beckham (!) Performed ‘2 Become 1′ at a New Years Eve Party
It's official: the Spice Girls are just f--king with us at this point...and possibly with each other as well.
With 2016 just about over (good riddance) in all territories across the world and an entire year's worth of are-they-or-aren't-they Spice Girls reunion rumors behind us, two-fifths of the most iconic girl group of the '90s came together in incredibly rare, semi-slurry form on stage tonight (Dec. 31) at Victoria and David Beckham's New Year's Eve party in the Maldives: Mel C and...Victoria Beckham.
Yes, that's right: "Let Your Head Go" singer-turned-fashion mogul Victoria Beckham got on stage again for the briefest of returns to pop star mode.
News broke days ago that The Artist Formerly Known As Posh Spice booked longtime friend and bandmate Mel C, The Artist Formerly Known As Sporty Spice, to headline the exclusive event hosted by the five-star Amilla Fushi resort, with a guest list boasting A-listers like Gordon and Tana Ramsay. (And yes, it sounds exactly as posh as one would anticipate from Posh Spice.)
While Mel C has certainly done her fair share of "2 Become 1" duetting over the past few months and years with a revolving cast of special guests, seeing Victoria give it a go again next to her sister in Spice is certainly a first.
Granted, you can't really hear Victoria. But then, when could you?
Let us not forget: this is the same woman who, during her solo moment on the Return Of The Spice Girls Tour, opted to serve a fierce runway walk rather than sing.
As for Emma Bunton, Geri Halliwell (now Geri Horner) and Mel B — otherwise known as the members of "Song For Her" sub-group GEM? Not sure they'll be nearly as pleased with the news — unless all their invites got lost in the mail.
But...Victoria Beckham on stage! Singing...or willingly pretending! If that doesn't inspire some hope for 2017, what could?
Happy New Year, everyone.
