Brendan Haas is a 9 year old from Kingston, Massachusetts. Somewhere along the line he heard about the famous website One Red Paperclip that features the story of a guy used a series of trades to turn one red paperclip into a house.
Brendan go the idea to do something similar but he wanted to use his trades to help out the family of a fallen U.S. soldier. So to Facebook he went! He set his page up to try and trade one toy soldier for a trip to Disney World.
First he traded the toy soldier for a $50 Walmart gift card. Trading that he got an overnight spa trip. Leading to Red Sox tickets. which got him a snowmobiling trip. From that BAM, he got the Disney World trip.
A bunch of families of fallen solders had emailed him and choosing at random, on Memorial Day, he chose the family of a soldier named Timothy Steele and sent them to Disney World. An all inclusive trip including airfare, hotel, and $900 in gift certificates.
Timothy Steele was killed in Afghanistan last August at age 25. He left behind a wife and a two-year-old daughter. Coincidentally the family lived pretty close to Brendan, in Duxbury, Massachusetts. Watch the video below.
