Joseph Kahn Shares Amazing ‘Justice League Dark’ Concept Art
While a big-screen Justice League has finally happened, plans for their darker, more fantastical counterparts have been in development for quite a while, with development of Justice League Dark starting and stopping and directors hopping onboard and then jumping off just as quickly. Everyone from Doug Liman to Guillermo del Toro have been attached, and now it’s back to the drawing board as a new script is being worked on right now. Speaking of the drawing board, filmmaker Joseph Kahn recently shared his concept art for his Justice League Dark pitch from years ago, and they’re truly a sight to behold.
Kahn shared these images on his Twitter over the weekend. Obviously, the star of the show is Swamp Thing, who looks properly menacing. Check out this walking test animation Kahn posted on his Vimeo a year ago.
Next is John Constantine, for whom Kahn used Legion’s Dan Stevens as a face template. For Zatanna he used Game of Thrones star Natalie Dormer, and for Jason Blood he has Chiwetel Ejiofor.
Zatanna’s is really the only design I’m not super into — she’s a little too Suicide Squad Harley Quinn for me, and this design ditches the magician outfit completely, which is one of my favorite parts of the character. He says she would wear the hat with this, but a hat would look way cooler on top of the traditional coattails and bowtie.
Kahn’s vision for the movie looks suitably dark and weird, and even though these designs won’t be used in any future versions of the characters, I really hope this movie actually happens to that we can finally see them onscreen.
