Revelations that film magnate Harvey Weinstein allegedly sexually assaulted a number of women over a period of decades has emboldened many within Hollywood to come forward about having been violated, and James Van Der Beek is the latest.

In a series of pointed tweets, Van Der Beek condemned Weinstein's actions, expressed solidarity with the women who've been victimized and dismissed the idea that people should write off the experience of being violated as status quo in the film industry.

"I've had my ass grabbed by older, powerful men, I've had them corner me in inappropriate sexual conversations when I was much younger," he revealed. "I understand the unwarranted shame, powerlessness & inability to blow the whistle. There's a power dynamic that feels impossible to overcome."

"What he’s admitted to is unacceptable — in any industry," Van Der Beek added. "I applaud everybody speaking out."
