James Corden Turns Oscar Blunder Into Award-Worthy ‘La La Land’ Parody
James Corden poked fun at the now-infamous Oscars flub by parodying Emma Stone's audition scene in La La Land on last night's (February 27) episode of The Late Late Show.
Donning a red wing and the same simple blue sweater Stone's Mia wore in the La La Land scene, Corden entered a room with two casting director characters, who asked him to tell them a story. He then regaled them with the tale of La La Land accidentally being named Best Picture before it was revealed that Moonlight had actually won.
"My film used to be Best Picture," he began in his monologue audition. "I remember it was Oscar night. Faye Dunaway said La La Land won. I remember our whole team jumped on stage, leapt without looking."
Corden then began to sing: "Was this a mixup? A conspiracy, a fixup? Or was Warren Beatty just blind? Here's to the ones who lose. God, I need so much booze. Here's to the ones who hope. Who switched that envelope? They told them, Moonlight come give your speech on your film about h------s on the beach. This result doesn't seem right. Oscars used to be so white!"
Earlier in the show, Corden addressed the Oscars in his monologue. He touched on the front-row celebrities reacting to the Best Picture mistake, Chrissy Teigen sleeping during the ceremony and Nicole Kidman's clapping.
