'Tis the season for holiday cheer and that includes getting together with friends and family, music, food, and gifts.

Of course, you're more than likely familiar with that old saying, "It's better to give than receive" and it seems that especially during this time of year, people are much more into the giving spirit.

Here in Montana, we have many wonderful organizations that depend on the kindness of others.  Whether it's for helping our veterans, animals, kids, or those down on their luck, you will more certainly find a cause that you are passionate about.

Our friends over at WalletHub came out with The Most Charitable States for 2023 and surprisingly, Montana didn't make the Top 10. The Treasure State didn't even make the Top 25.

Montana ranks 29th out of the 50 states regarding charitable donations. Now while that might shock many Montanans, keep in mind that in many ways Montana is a state of "have" and "have not".

Many of the wealthiest residents only live here part-time and due to the increased cost of living and housing, it is certainly plausible that those who used to give regularly, simply can't afford to do so as they once did.

It is interesting to note that some of our "neighbors" in the surrounding states are some of the most giving states in the country. Our friends in Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, and Wyoming all made the Top 10 list with Utah and Wyoming coming in as the 1st and 2nd most charitable states in the nation.
