Montana Is Home To One Of America’s Largest Historic Districts

When you think of the history of America, there's a lot to take in. I mean, think about it. 250-plus years ago, some folks got fed up with the way things were and decided to take on the most sophisticated military in the world, and beat them.

What is Montana's biggest historic district?

According to Google, the largest historic district in the country is located in Georgia. The town of Savannah has a ton of character, charm, and history. Rumored to be one of the most haunted cities in America, Savannah is as southern as southern gets, however, it's not the only town that has a massive historical district.

Butte, Montana, is not only the most historic town in Montana, but it's also one of the most historic in the country. Butte, known as "The Richest Hill On Earth," was one of the busiest cities in the world during its heyday.

The town was a boomtown in every sense of the word, with thousands of people moving to work in the mines beneath the Montana city. Today, there is much to remind us of those days gone by.

One of the biggest reminders is Uptown Butte.

The historic area is filled with old buildings and lots of memories. Butte was a company town, with over 10 thousand miles of mines under the city. The city has a checkered past with one of the most notorious red light districts in the country. One historian has been quoted as saying that a "very popular" celebrity of the day made sure Butte was on his list of stops so he could visit some of his favorite "ladies".

Butte was also one of the first American cities to have electricity and is home to the oldest Chinese restaurant in the country and for a period of time, the biggest producer of copper in the world.
