Montana Gets Front Row View Of The Biggest Supermoon Of The Year
Hey, all you star gazers. The biggest Big Sky event of the year is happening TOMORROW (11/5). No, it’s not a concert, no, it’s not a parade, but it’s the big cheese in the sky showing up in all its glory. That’s right, Montana is about to get one of the best front-row seats in the country for the Beaver Supermoon. Why? Because we’ve got some of the darkest skies around. With our wide-open spaces and limited light pollution, you can skip the fancy telescopes and just step outside your front door for one of nature’s best shows.

So, what’s all the hype about this particular Moon? The November full Moon is special because it’s both a supermoon and the Beaver Moon. A supermoon happens when the Moon swings in a little closer to Earth during its orbit, making it look up to 14% bigger and 30% brighter than usual. The Beaver Moon nickname goes way back to when trappers would set beaver traps before the waterways froze over. Basically, it’s nature’s way of saying, “Winter’s coming, folks.”
Now, before you go expecting the Moon to look the size of a pizza, let’s clear something up. The difference between a regular full Moon and a supermoon is subtle. You might not notice it with your eyes, but photographers sure will. This one is the closest Moon of 2025, sitting a mere 221,818 miles from Earth. That’s practically neighbors by cosmic standards.
