Local Montanan Sets World Record: Youngest Woman To Climb The Seven Summits
When you think about life goals, the usual answers come to mind—own a home, start a family, maybe travel overseas a bit. You know… the standard stuff. But for some people, dreams look a little different. A little bigger. Like climbing Mount Everest. And if you're Emma Schwerin—who, by the way, is still a teenager—it's not just Everest. It's tackling seven of the world's tallest peaks.
Climbing the Seven Summits is one of the most hardcore achievements in the mountaineering world. It means summiting the tallest peak on each of the seven continental landmasses. It's grueling, dangerous, and reserved for the most determined climbers on the planet.
If you manage to pull it off, you earn a spot in the exclusive "Seven Summits Club."
Now, imagine doing all of that before you turn 18. That's exactly what Bozeman native Emma Schwerin did. One summit at a time, she checked them off—becoming the youngest woman in the world to do it.
Here's the insane list of peaks she conquered by the age of 17:
- Mount Kosciuszko, Australia – 7,310 ft / Completed Nov. 2023
- Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa – 19,341 ft / Completed Jan. 2024
- Iliniza Norte, Ecuador – 16,818 ft / Completed March 2024
- Denali, North America – 20,310 ft / Completed June 2024
- Mont Blanc, Europe – 15,766 ft / Completed July 2024
- Aconcagua, South America – 22,837 ft / Completed Dec. 2024
- Mt. Vinson, Antarctica – 16,050 ft / Completed Dec. 2024
- Mount Everest, Asia – 29,032 ft / Completed May 2025
Yeah… goals.

Congratulations, Emma, on becoming the youngest woman in the world to complete the Seven Summits. And if that wasn’t impressive enough, she’s now also the youngest American woman to summit Mount Everest. A true inspiration, proving that no dream is too big when you're willing to climb for it—literally.
