My wife and I took a few days to head north to Alberta. We spent time in Calgary visiting friends and then went to Banff for a couple of days.

On our way home back to Montana, I noticed something that I thought was a little strange. So much so that I started to pay attention to all of the political signs we were driving past.

It's election season, which means that there are yard signs and banners all over The Treasure State, and of course, one of the biggest fall elections is here in Montana between Jon Tester and Tim Sheehy to represent Montana in the United States Senate.

Which candidate is the Montana Ag community supporting?

I'm in no way telling you who you should vote for.  What I do want to say however is that I thought it was interesting as we drove from the border back to Bozeman all I saw were Tester signs on Montana's farms and ranches.

Tester and Sheehy own land here in Montana and use that land for agriculture and ranching, so it was a bit of a surprise to see the Tester signs in the more rural areas. Especially with the theory that outside of Bozeman and Missoula, Montana is very conservative.

I'm not sure that translates into all the ag people are for Tester, but it's certainly interesting. Tester is a multi-generation Montanan and for many that matters.  Sheehy is not a Montana native, but his party represents many issues and values that Montanans relate to.

While both campaigns have spent an ample amount of time talking about the other, they've also targeted Montana's Veterans and gun owners in addition to those who are part of the agriculture community. It should be noted that Sheehy is a veteran as is his wife.

With just a couple of months left, we're more than likely to hear more from the two men and while I'm not sure who will win, chances are it will be a close vote.
