I love living in Montana.

For me, it's a dream come true. I first moved to Montana back in 2006. I rented an apartment in Missoula, and I think it cost me around 700 dollars a month. Of course, nowadays I pay a little more for rent than I did back then (triple)

I make a decent living, and my wife is a teacher with a Master's Degree; we don't have car payments, and we're not saddled with a ton of debt, so we should be able to afford a home, right?

Yeah, not so much.

Now granted, we live in Bozeman, which is one of the most expensive places to call home, but it's not just Bozeman that is expensive; according to new data, Montana might be one of the worst places to call home.

Is Montana a good place to call home?

Well, that depends. Do you already own a home here? Or, do you have a large amount for a down payment, or is your salary 4 times the state average? If you answered yes to any of those questions, then yes, Montana is a great place to call home. If not, it's probably going to be a struggle.

The folks over at WalletHub came out with a list of the 2025 Best Real Estate Markets across the United States. They took a look at 300 markets and, in a bit of a shocker, not one mention of Montana.
