Montana’s First Big Oktoberfest Happens This Weekend
Montana is known for its Irish Heritage, thanks in part to the large population of Irish residents in Butte, but did you know that the Irish aren't the only folks with a large presence here in Montana?
According to the data, over a quarter of Montana's population can claim German heritage, including me.
A few years ago, I decided to return to the Motherland to see where I came from. It was a trip of a lifetime, and one that I would encourage everyone to take. We enjoyed the history, the food, and all of the sights. Plus, there was a feeling of "you're home" that came over me.

Where to celebrate Oktoberfest in Montana
The two biggest Oktoberfest celebrations happen in Big Sky and Whitefish.
Big Sky's Oktoberfest is filled with food, fun, beer, and German traditions, including live music and stein holding. (If you've never done the whole stein holding thing, it's much harder than you think) Plus, there is a 2-mile fun run as well. This year's Big Sky Oktoberfest takes place this weekend, from September 26th through the 28th.
The Great Northwest Oktoberfest takes place in Whitefish over two weekends. October 2nd through the 4th and October 9th through the 11th.
The Great Northwest Oktoberfest is also filled with all the thrills you would expect, including both the Polka and a Waltz or two. Not to mention several different vendors offering up traditional German food and beer.

If that's not enough, there are several other smaller events taking place across the state, including the Livingston Oktoberfest, which takes place on October 18th.
