Montanans take pride in their state. It's one of those places where while we can rip on each other, if an outsider comes in and starts talking smack, we ban together, kind of like a family.

So whenever someone has an idea to change something here, it's usually met with a raised eyebrow or two. Although, it doesn't seem to stop folks from trying.

I was reading something recently about "updating" Montana's nickname. Of course, officially, we're "The Treasure State" but there's also "Big Sky Country" and "The Last Best Place."

The Treasure State nickname holds significant meaning to Montana and represents the history of not only the mining aspect of the state but the fact that it truly is a treasure.

My favorite of the nicknames is "The Last Best Place", but I thought it would be interesting to ask ChatGPT what they thought. So I typed in the question:

"What are some new nicknames for Montana?"

Before we reveal what the all-knowing AI brain had to say, let's look at 5 things people should know before moving to Montana.

New Nicknames for Montana

ChatGPT came up with several different options, but I'm going to narrow it down to just the best of the best. Keep in mind, I don't see the official state nickname changing, but for those of you who think we could use a little bit of an upgrade, check these out below:

  • The Land Of Peaks And Prairies. I don't hate this and I could actually get on board with this suggestion,
  • Frontier Haven. Once again, not bad.
  • Treasureland. Kind of an updated version of what we have, but also sounds like some sort of pirate-themed casino.
  • Summit State. I don't love it.
  • Peak Paradise. Eh.
  • Nature's Canvas. I mean, it's appropriate, but it just reminds me of a vitamin brand.
  • Skyland. Once again, not my favorite it sounds like an amusement park

What do you think? Should Montana always be "The Treasure State" or is it time to maybe update the official nickname? If you were to pick a nickname for the state, what would you choose?
