Montana’s Going To The Sun Road See’s Changes In 2026

A few summers ago, we decided to take a family trip through Glacier and up into Alberta to spend some time in Banff.

For all of the years that I've lived in Montana, it was the first time I had been to Glacier National Park and I was blown away.  The highlight of the trip for me was Going To The Sun Road. We decided to let someone else drive so that we could enjoy the view, and speaking of views...simply stunning.

While folks will argue on which road or highway has the most scenic views, Going To The Sun Road always makes the list.

The road itself is a marvel as it took right around 11 years to build and around 500 thousand pounds of dynamite. The road is right around 50 miles long and on an average day, will take around 2 hours to drive. Once again, I would recommend you take a tour bus so that you can enjoy the views to the fullest.

However, if you would like some time to explore the area around Logan Pass, you might want to drive yourself. Although, the parking lot fills up fast, so the earlier, the better. There is a Visitors Center and multiple trails to see, so you can certainly make a day of it.
