Are Montanans Better Off Today Than They Were 4 Years Ago?
In case you didn't know, there's a big election coming our way in the fall. Montanans will go to the polls to vote in local, state, and national races and if you pay any attention to the news, the talking heads will tell you it's the most important election in our lifetime.
This is in no way an endorsement for anyone running. Sure, I have my thoughts and views on the topics of the day, but it isn't my job to tell you who you should vote for or what you should think. The right to vote is a privilege that we should always hold sacred.
The question that I have for you is a simple one. As a Montanan, are you better off today than you were 4 years ago?
A quick look at the data would suggest that many of us are not. Housing prices have soared in the last four years and there are many Montanans that are struggling to make ends meet. Fuel prices are up, grocery prices are up, and more Montanans are going into debt than ever before.
As we get closer to November, we will be bombarded by political ads on TV, Radio, and Social Media. Most of them will spend their time and money telling you how their opponent is a horrible human being and listing reasons why you shouldn't vote for them.
The sad thing is, that many of us will listen to them and base our votes on that information.
To say that we are a divided people is quite an understatement. I don't recall a time in my life when people were more vicious towards each other than they are right now. It seems the days of open dialog have gone out the window and many Montanas simply vote for someone based on party affiliation.
As I mentioned above, I'm not interested in telling you who to vote for or what you should believe. I am, however, interested in seeing the United States and Montana succeed. Montana faces some big challenges over the next few years and that means we Montanans are responsible for making sure that we elect people that have our best interests at heart.
I would suggest that you take some time and look into each candidate and look at their voting records. Did they vote for the issues that affect you? If so, was it beneficial to you? Do they represent you and your family? Are they willing to fight for you and the Montana way of life?
These are all questions Montanans should be asking themselves before casting their votes.
