Montana Food Banks To Receive Massive Donation
For many, Christmas is a time for giving, and that is exactly what one church has decided to do this holiday season.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is a worldwide church with its main offices in Salt Lake City. The Church, in celebration of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, is providing food for multiple locations across the United States, including one here in the Gallatin Valley.
In a press release, the Church announced that it would be sending 250 semi-trucks filled with food to numerous food banks across the country, with one of those trucks scheduled to arrive at the Gallatin Valley Food Bank on December 19th.
It is estimated that the truck will contain 40 thousand pounds of food on 44 pallets that will be distributed in our area to help those who are in need. Other towns that will be benefiting from the donations include Food Banks in Big Timber, Gardiner, and Livingston.
The Church, which has around 52 thousand members and 150 congregations across Montana, has long been heavily involved with helping others. Through tithes and other donations, the Church has built up programs that not only help members but also those outside of the Church as well.
Long known for its missionary program, the LDS church has been part of Montana since the beginning. Once the early Saints were established in Utah, they decided to expand by going both north and south. To the north, they went to Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, and up into Alberta.

With the increase in people using the local Food Banks, this will no doubt be a welcome gift that will help feed many Montanans this holiday season.
