Fun And Freedom? Check Out This Great Event In Bozeman.

When it comes to supporting our troops past and present, Montana and its residents go above and beyond.

There are several different Veterans Organizations across the state that help those men and women who so bravely served our country and the issues that they might be dealing with. As the son of a Viet Nam Veteran, I saw firsthand the struggles that these brave warriors face throughout their lives. From adjusting back to society, to suicidal thoughts, to PTSD many of our Vets face a daily struggle.

This is why the event taking place this weekend in Bozeman is certainly worth being a part of.

One organization that helps Vets using fun and humor is the Irreverent Warriors. The Irreverent Warriors can be found all over the nation, including here in Montana and they are known for their infamous "Silkies Hike". For more information about the Irreverent Warriors, check out this video.

So what exactly is a Silkies Hike? According to the Montana Chapter website, the non-athletic event includes the following.

"The hikes are between 4-10 miles, paced at 2-3 miles per hour. There are frequent stops for fellowship and food/beverages, and rucks, weight and boots are optional."

For those that might be wondering what exactly is a "silkie", it's the nickname for the Ranger Panties that have a 2-inch inseam.

While the event is meant to be filled with humor and fun, the mission is as serious as can be as the Irreverent Warriors are focused on helping Vets dealing with Mental Health and Veteran Suicide.

So, if you are looking for a fun event that will help out our Vets, you will definitely want to check out the Silkies Hike this weekend here in Bozeman. The event will kick off this Saturday at 9:00 am.
