New Coffee Shop Opens In Downtown Livingston
When a new business opens, it usually gets a little buzz. But in a small town like Livingston, Montana, it’s big news—especially when it involves coffee. Locals love a good cup of joe, and the newest spot in town is totally worth the trip.
Joining the list of beloved coffee spots like The Coffee Crossing and The Perk on Park, Livingston just welcomed a fresh new name to the scene—The Gem.
Located at 114 West Lewis Street, The Gem Coffee Shop gives a little tip of the hat to the building’s past life as Tom's Jewelers. And just like the name suggests, this place has charm, quality coffee, and a few surprises.
The Gem is the brainchild of three entrepreneurs—Colin Frazier, Taylor Wallace, and Dave Tolliver. Taylor and Dave aren’t new to the coffee game. In fact, they’re the team behind the successful Roly-Poly Coffee Co. in downtown Bozeman, so they know what they're doing when it comes to serving up the good stuff.
I swung by this past weekend to check it out for myself. I ordered a cortado (10/10 recommend) and couldn’t resist trying their chorizo, egg, and cheese breakfast sammie—solid choice. While I waited, I wandered through their specialty grocery section. You’ll find all kinds of unique goodies: imported pastas, small-batch crackers, drinks, and other fun finds you didn’t know you needed.
Then something totally unexpected happened. A guy sitting in a booth, casually sipping coffee and shuffling cards, caught the attention of a few nearby tourists. Turns out, he’s a local magician—and before I knew it, we were getting an impromptu magic show, right there in the café.
That’s the magic (literally) of small-town Montana. Great coffee, friendly faces, and the kind of moments you just don’t get in a big city.

So, if you haven’t been yet, I highly recommend checking out The Gem in downtown Livingston. I can’t promise you’ll catch a magic show, but you will definitely get a great cup of coffee.
