It's not hard to understand that allure. To live and work in a place that has stunning views, tons of outdoor recreational activities, and lots of access to both hunting and fishing makes Montana extremely attractive.

However, are there certain places to live in the state that are better than others?

We were wondering what Montanans actually thought so we decided to ask them what would be the one town or city in Montana that they would never want to live in. Of course, depending on how you feel or who you are, the answers may or may not be surprising.

Billings, Montana

Billings is not only the biggest city in Montana, but it also has one of the highest crime rates in the state. Known as the Magic City, Billings has almost everything someone could want as far as retail and it is cheaper than other towns that made the list as far as homes and rent go.

Bozeman, Montana

Once known as a "cowboy town" Bozeman has become a backyard playground for the wealthy with the nickname "Boz Angeles". While there are still plenty of local businesses that have been around for decades, more and more trendy stores are moving to town, which many claim has taken all the charm out of the popular college town. Plus, the high cost of real estate has made it impossible for many locals to continue to live.

Butte, Montana

Very few Montana towns come close to the history of Butte. Once a booming mining town with streets made of granite, the town fell on hard times for many decades, however, the residents of Butte are known for their intense loyalty to their hometown. Known for the Berkley Pit, it's a blue-collar town, however, is showing signs of life especially recently with the filming of the Yellowstone spinoff, 1923.

Great Falls, Montana

Great Falls is the 3rd biggest city in the state and has a couple of claims to fame. Great Falls is home to Malmstrom Air Force Base, is right next to the Missouri River, and has close proximity to 5 different hydroelectric dams which has given the town the nickname "The Electric City". In recent years, the town has struggled a bit when it comes to economic growth.

Missoula, Montana

Missoula is home to the University of Montana and is the 2nd biggest city in the state. Over the last several years, people have flocked to The Garden City for its outdoor activities, social scene, and it's culture. Certainly the most progressive of all the towns, Missoula is known for it's free-spirit with slogans like "Keep Missoula Weird". While not housing isn't as expensive as Bozeman, Missoula isn't far behind.
