Teachers in Montana deserve deep respect. We know they don't get paid enough, but they show up every day to teach our children and prepare the next generation.

A Personal Connection to Education

Being a teacher in Montana isn't always easy. I know that firsthand because several of my relatives have worked in education, including my wife. Teachers make a difference in our communities, and it's great to see their hard work recognized.

Now, one Montana educator is receiving some well-deserved recognition.

Kenneth "Kenny" Ross: Montana's Teacher of the Year

Montana Superintendent of Public Instruction Susie Hedalen has announced Kenneth "Kenny" Ross as the 2027 Montana Teacher of the Year. Ross teaches special education at Evergreen Junior High School in Kalispell.

That's quite an honor, especially when you consider the number of outstanding educators working in schools across Montana.

The Montana Teacher of the Year program recognizes outstanding educators who make a meaningful difference in the lives of their students and communities.

According to the announcement, Superintendent Hedalen is proud to recognize Ross for his work with students.

Special education teachers play an important role in ensuring every student has the support, resources, and opportunities needed to succeed.

Hedalen highlighted the dedication of Montana educators who meet students where they are, help them work toward their individual goals, and make lasting contributions to their school communities.

Being named Montana Teacher of the Year comes with responsibilities beyond the classroom.

Recognizing Other Outstanding Educators

Ross will serve as an ambassador for the teaching profession, representing Montana in the National Teacher of the Year program. He'll also have opportunities to share his experiences with educators, students, and communities throughout the state.

A Tribute to Montana's Teaching Community

It's a chance to shine a spotlight on the work teachers do every day, often without receiving the recognition they deserve.

Ross wasn't the only educator recognized. The other finalists were:

  • McKayla Botsford, Potomac Elementary School
  • Sheryl Kohl, Poplar Middle School
  • Karen Reece, Lakeside Elementary School

Congratulations to Kenny Ross and All Educators

Congratulations to all four educators for representing the best of Montana's teaching profession.

It's always great to see Montana educators receive recognition for their hard work. Teachers do so much more than teach lessons. They encourage students, help them overcome challenges, and give them the tools they need to succeed.
