Idris Elba Crushes Dreams, Says He Hasn’t Been in Talks to Play James Bond
Who wouldn’t want to see a James Bond movie starring Idris Elba? The English actor has become a fan favorite to replace Daniel Craig as the next 007. But as much as we’d all love to see the Luther star portray the iconic agent, it’s likely not happening.
In an interview with Good Morning America on Friday, Elba destroyed our hopes, telling host Michael Strahan that he’s never been in talks for the role, calling it “the wildest rumor in the world.”
I keep saying if it were to happen it would be the will of a nation because there hasn’t been any talks between me and the studio about any of that.
But even if the studio did give Elba a call, he’s not sure he’d be up for the gig. “But if I’m really honest man, I think I’m too old for that,” he told Strahan. “Running around in cars and ladies and martinis, who wants to do that? Sounds terrible.” Truly terrible! Seriously, is playing James Bond that awful? It made Craig to threaten to “slash“ his wrists, but it can’t be that bad. After all, Elba just did a lot of running around in cars spaceships in Star Trek Beyond, and he had to wear a ton of prosthetics for his role as Krall. If he can do that, I’m sure the 43 year old actor could handle shooting a couple pistols and fighting off some henchmen.
As high as hopes may be though, it looks like Tom Hiddleston could be our next James Bond. Unlike Elba, Hiddleston has reportedly been in talks to take over the role, though he claims to know nothing about it. And also unlike Elba, the High Rise star has said he’d be ready to take on the physicality of the part. But nothing is official yet, so we can still place our bets on who will be the next MI6 agent.
