Hyalite's Annual Spring Clean-Up Day is this Saturday, May 15. The goal is to get outdoors and spruce up one of the places we love in the Bozeman area.

Friends of Hyalite are looking for volunteers to help make sure the canyon is in tip-top shape before the road opens for the summer season. If you're free on Saturday and are available to help out, you can sign up to volunteer.

The clean-up day is scheduled from 12:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. this Saturday, May 15. Afterward, organizers have a picnic lunch planned for volunteers. Friends of Hyalite are asking that volunteers sign up in advance due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Space is limited.

The main areas of focus for Hyalite's Annual Spring Clean-Up Day this year are listed below.

  • Picking up litter and cleaning up pallet fire debris in the Grotto Falls and Chisolm trailheads, and the road and dispersed sites between these two trailheads.
  • Picking up litter and debris, and cleaning out fire rings in the Chisolm campground, Chisolm day-use area, and the Maxey cabin winter parking area (where there was quite the terrain park this winter).
  • Picking up litter and debris, and cleaning out fire rings in the Hood Creek Campground and the Wildhorse parking lots.
  • Picking up litter and debris, and cleaning out fire rings in the Reservoir Day Use Area, Blackmore trailhead, and along the road in between these two sites.
  • Picking up litter and cleaning up pallet fire debris in the History Rock and Lick Creek trailheads and at the dispersed campsites and along the road in between these two trailheads.
  • Lower fishing access parking lot, Moser parking lot, and along the road through the canyon.

Details about where to meet will be given to volunteers after the sign-up process is completed.

Since we all enjoy spending time up at Hyalite, we all have a responsibility to keep it pristine and beautiful.

Volunteers are asked to dress appropriately for the weather, as conditions can change quickly during the spring. All you have to bring is a mask and your own work gloves. Friends of Hyalite and the Forest Service will provide tools, trash bags, and everything else you need.
