Glenn Close to Lead Amazon Zombie Comedy ‘Sea Oak’
We knew Amazon wouldn’t stay out of the zombie genre after Zombieland, but adding Glenn Close to lead the next venture is another matter. The Damages and Guardians of the Galaxy star will join Sea Oak, a new half-hour comedy about undead revenge.
Per The Hollywood Reporter, the half-hour comedy pilot from writer George Saunders marks Close’s first regular TV role since the Emmy-winning Damages, and a return to the zombie genre after last year’s The Girl With All the Gifts. The series will presumably be included with their next round of comedy pilots (unless that Whole Foods money makes them throw out the existing model), while the ghoulish Sea Oak synopsis reads:
Sea Oak revolves around Aunt Bernie (Close), a meek, unmarried woman with no children in working-class Rust Belt City who dies tragically in a home invasion. Compelled by sheer force of dissatisfaction, she comes back from the dead full of rage and determined to get the life she never had. She proceeds to inflict a range of demands on what’s left of her nuclear family, including a quasi-stripper nephew and two feckless nieces, who live in a low-end subsidized hellhole of a housing complex called Sea Oak.
The series itself was first picked up in March, as executive produced by Jonathan Krauss and co-produced by Lael Smith and Keir McFarlane. Stay tuned for more details as casting picks up.
