Dear Ghostbusters haters, are you still angry about Paul Feig‘s female reboot? Are your hands tired from typing one vile, misogynistic comment after the next on YouTube? Are you praying the new movie will bomb at the box office so your precious childhood will never be threatened again? Well, too bad.

Sony’s Ghostbusters reboot is here to stay for a long while, so long that the studio sees no end in sight for the franchise. Producer Amy Pascal called the new Ghostbusters franchise “endless” at the movie’s Los Angeles premiere on Saturday. “It’s going to be endless. People are going to love this movie so much that’s they’re going to demand more and more,” Pascal told The Hollywood Reporter.

It’s not a total surprise that Sony sees a future for the new ghostbusting gang. Despite the sexist backlash and the movie’s trailer becoming most disliked video in YouTube history, the movie is, wait for it… pretty good! I saw it last week and it was one of the most enjoyable movies of the summer (mind you, this is not a good summer for movies), mainly thanks to the delightful humor courtesy of the cast. As Matt Singer wrote in his reviewMelissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones are the best part of the reboot, characters who stand well on their own distinct from the team of 1984 original. The new movie even sets up a possible sequel in the final moments, so it’s likely this won’t be the last we’ve seen of women fighting paranormal entities with proton packs.

So far the reboot has gotten mixed reviews and is currently 78 percent fresh on Rotten Tomatoes with a Metacritic score of 64. The haters may be protesting the reboot – and if you’re biggest thing to protest right now is a female-led comedy than your priorities are disturbingly out of order – but if it performs well this weekend we might see more from McCarthy, Wiig, McKinnon and Jones in the future. Now, I’m not sure if an “endless” new Ghostbusters franchise is the best idea. As entertaining as the movie was, it does have some flaws. But that doesn’t mean Feig (or whoever directs the possible future movies) couldn’t work out the kinks for an even better movie. Ghostbusters opens July 15.
