In a press release, Governor Steve Bullock announced the first death in Montana connected to COVID-19 on Thursday. The announcement came on the heels of a shelter-in-place order that will go into effect Saturday at 12:01 a.m. for Montana.

Governor Steve Bullock stated

I’m heartbroken to learn of Montana’s first death due to COVID-19. Especially during these times, Montana truly is one big small town – this news hits us hard, but we’re in this together. My family and I send our love and support to the family, friends, and community of our fellow Montanan.

The Governor's Coronavirus Task Force has reported seven hospitalizations related to COVID-19, one in Gallatin County, and 90 total cases in the state on Thursday.

No further information has been made public about the death as public health officials worked to contact the person's family Thursday night.
