UPDATE # 2: In regards to the incident at Rossiter this morning, all schools in the Helena School District 1 and East Helena School district were checked and cleared earlier today. Based on its appearance, responders originally suspected an explosive device had detonated. Investigation by officials determined it did not explode. The suspected device was a plastic bottle with tape and had debris around it that included nuts, bolts and washers and an unidentifiable liquid inside and around it. Preliminary findings show no powder or chemical residue and the fluid is non-flammable. There is no reason to believe there is any further risk at this time and Helena Public Schools has confirmed school will resume tomorrow.

UPDATE: According to the Lewis & Clark County Sheriff's Office, all Helena District 1 and East Helena schools have been swept and cleared; lockdowns have been lifted. Rossiter is closed for the day--status for school tomorrow at Rossiter is yet to be determined.

The Lewis & Clark Country Sheriff's Office is reporting that an improvised explosive device was detonated this morning on the playground of Rossiter Elemmentary School in Helena. Nobody was reportedly injured.

Students at the school have been evacuated, and all Helena schools are currently in lock down.
