Montana State football head coach Jeff Choate confirmed on Tuesday that Bobcat running backs coach, DeNarius McGhee, is leaving to join the NFL's Houston Texans.

The former Bobcat All-America and two-time Big Sky MVP departs after three seasons at his alma mater, where he coached running backs during the 2018-19 seasons. During McGhee's tenure, running back Isaiah Ifanse set a school freshman rushing record and a Bobcat single-game playoff rushing record. McGhee coached Bobcat quarterbacks in 2017, when Chris Murray became the school’s single-season quarterback rushing leader. McGhee also served as the program’s recruiting coordinator for the past year-and-half.

“DeNarius did very good work in a number of roles on our staff,” Choate said. “He brought energy and a tireless work ethic every day, and his personality and passion are infectious. This is an exciting opportunity, and I wish him the best.”

The Texans finished the 2019 season 10-6, won the AFC South, and beat the Buffalo Bills in the Wild Card round of the NFL playoffs before losing to Kansas City in the Divisional round. McGhee indicated that the title of his position with the Texans hasn’t been finalized.
