Beyonce's Lemonade was somehow shut out during last night's (September 18) 2016 Emmys, where it failed to win a single award despite being nominated in four categories. But one particular loss stood out above all others, inciting the fury of the Beyhive across social media.

Fox's Grease: Live! took the award for Outstanding Directing for a Variety Special, earning Thomas Kail and Alex Rudzinski an Emmy for their work on the show over Lemonade's Beyonce and Kahlil Joseph. This was baffling to anyone who saw both Grease: Live! -- a well staged, but otherwise unremarkable live musical -- and Lemonade -- a visually-arresting game changer and one of 2016's best moments in pop culture.

Beyonce did not attend the Emmy Awards — perhaps because she’d been unjustly relegated to second-row status, according to New York Magazine — which should’ve been a major indicator that the Lemonade singer would walk away empty handed. But it didn't make the loss sting any less, and the Beyhive made sure their upset was known on Twitter.

2016 Emmys host Jimmy Kimmel even responded to the surprising win, shortly after Kail and Rudzinski left the stage, saying via E! News, "I wouldn't want to be those guys when Kanye finds out they beat Beyoncé."
