Jermaine Jones was born to sing. In fact, his mother says he was born singing. The 24-year-old ‘American Idol‘ contestant’s nervous performance of ‘Superstar’ by Luther Vandross convinced judges that he was good enough to get to Hollywood.

The 6’8″ (and-a-half) tall music teacher from Pine Hill, N.J. showed off a thick, deep bass and plenty of range. “You got that gift,” Steven Tyler said of his soulful performance. There’s little doubt that Jones has the passion  to be crowned the ‘American Idol,’ but does he have the voice? Well, he’s good enough to move on.

“The gentle giant goes to Hollywood,” Randy Jackson exclaimed. Jennifer Lopez agreed, but asked Jones to calm down a little before the Hollywood rounds begin. Indeed the big man was sweating enough to fill each judge’s Coca-Cola cups.

After posing with his golden ticket, Jones got his mother Katrice on the phone. She screamed with excitement. If this singer is able to get to the Top 10 rounds, it will be a lot of fun to watch her reactions on a weekly basis.
