Because terrifying us with xenomorphs onscreen just isn’t enough, Fox is now planning to create an Alien: Covenant virtual reality experience that’ll tie in with the movie and, I guess, scare users out of their minds. The project was announced at this week’s CES (Consumer Electronics Show) and is probably a much more exciting prospect than, say, a talking refrigerator.

Deadline reports that Fox Innovation Lab is partnering with RSA Films and Technicolor’s MPC VR for the project, which will be directed by David Karlak and overseen by Ridley Scott. It’s described as, “a dread-inducing journey into the depths of the Alien universe. Viewers will discover the true meaning of terror as they navigate through horrifying alien environments and a story where every decision could mean the difference between life and death.”

So you can imagine getting your face hugged while the VR goggles hug your actual face. Sounds like a blast.

This actually isn’t the first time Scott has journeyed into the realm of VR: he released a virtual reality experience to tie in with 2015’s The Martian that you can buy now on Steam and use with any VR-capable device. Whether that game made any sort of splash in the gaming community isn’t clear (I personally hadn’t heard about it until now), but maybe VR horror coupled with the classic-ness of the Alien movies would be more of a draw.

Next comes Alien-themed augmented reality that lets us run from the xenomorphs in the comfort of our own homes. Or maybe that would end up being a complete disaster like that recent Black Mirror episode.

The regular film version of Alien: Covenant opens in theaters May 19, 2017.
