Top 40 music is usually filled with artists like Katy Perry, Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber and many others that are always mainstays in the genre. But then you have something that all of a sudden comes out of nowhere that becomes popular. I'm not talking about a rap song (Eminem/Kanye West) or a country song (Florida Georgia Line) or a rock song (X Ambassadors, Imagine Dragons) becoming popular. I mean a song that literally comes out of left field.

For instance, Lana Del Ray song "Summertime Sadness" is not originally a Top 40 song.  She released the song and it didn't gain popularity on Top 40 charts till it was remixed by Cedric Grevais and was upbeat and more fun.

Right now though, there is a song that came out when I was a freshman in college in 2008 and is not getting played around the U.S. That song is Empire of Sun's "Walking on a Dream."  You might recognize the song due to it being played in a few big car commercials right now, and people are freaking out over it. I just think it's amazing how a song that came out in 2008 and is now starting to get popular. It blows my mind.
