R&B crooner the Weeknd had a not-so great weekend. The Toronto native was arrested on Saturday (Jan. 10) for allegedly punching a police officer in Las Vegas.

A rep for the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department informed E! News that the singer, whose real name is Abel Tesfaye, was arrested near Caesars Palace at 4:42AM.

TMZ reports that Special Event officers were responding to a call of a fight and when they arrived at the location, a large crowd of people were involved in an altercation.

As they tried to break up the fight, one officer pulled the Weeknd away from the chaos and escorted him into an elevator. That's when the singer allegedly punched the officer on the side of his head with a closed fist.

The 'Love Me Harder' creator was charged with battery of a protected person and later detained at Clark County Detention. After he posted bail, the Weeknd went on Instagram and posted a photo of himself hopping on a jet plane leaving Sin City.

"Escaped from Las Vegas,” he wrote.

He then posted more photos of himself working hard in the studio, sporting his signature dreadlock hairstyle.

We didn’t know that the Weeknd has a violent streak in him. But you know what they say: what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas.
