According to the Bozeman Daily Chronicle, the city officials want to institute a 4% sales tax in the city to use that revenue for the city. From fixing streets to other endeavors. Well that's a great idea and all but lets go through the pros and cons of instituting a sales tax in Bozeman.

Pros:This will help new revenue options for businesses. Property taxes won't increase. Be able to fix areas of Bozeman that can seem costly.

Cons:Bozeman shopping/dining will get more expensive. 99% of the rest of Montana will be tax free. Locals will get inevitably frustrated with this change.

Listen, I grew up going to Whitefish all the time which has a 1.5% resort tax(the same as sales tax but different words) and it was always incredibly annoying to order food and forget there is a tax there. I hated it, but then my brother who lives there made me realize how it benefits that city. Whitefish uses that tax money and make it look gorgeous. Everything is perfect and I think Bozeman would do exactly the same. The only problem is I honestly think the 4% is a little high. I lived in Idaho and 6% was always a problem. I think they could easily do 2% and that would be perfectly acceptable.
